Gemology is the science dealing with natural and artificial gemstone materials. It is a geoscience and a branch of mineralogy. Gemologists are academically trained and are qualified to identify and evaluate gems.
EXPERIENCE
A GIA Graduate Gemologist and a CPAA Certified Pearl Specialist who earned her BBA from the Gemological Institute of America, Tess founded Treasure Bay Jewelry, inspired by the natural beauty of pearls, in 1996. She estimates that she personally produced more than 15,000 pieces of handmade jewelry over the last 25 years.
Today, Tess focuses on working one-on-one (or one-on-two) with private clients. She enjoys helping them find, create, or update special pieces, including wedding and engagement rings. But she’s also become increasingly involved with the science of gemology, working as a consultant for the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum to identify, evaluate, and catalog the many gemstones in their collection.
PRACTICE
Currently, Tess is available to consult on gemstone sourcing and jewelry design and creation. A certified crystal healer, she is especially interested in colored gemstones and the ways that specific hues tie into the chakras and attach to emotions. “If you are craving a particular color, it usually aligns to something you might be missing, physically or spiritually.”
She’s also very eager to continue her work evaluating and identifying pieces for schools, museums, auction houses, and other clients.
